PRIVACY POLICY – TGE Demographics Consulting

What we do – TGE Demographics Consulting provides data and services to businesses that use demographic information to better understand their markets and customers. In most cases, we use secondary information such as census data to perform analyses and create unique datasets. In some cases, we act as data brokers to customize consumer data for marketing processes including direct mail campaigns.

Principles – TGE Demographics Consulting respects the privacy concerns of all persons and businesses that are either directly or indirectly involved in our work. Specifically, with respect to consumers, we adhere to the principle that consumers should have choices regarding how marketers use their data and market to them. For information about how to opt out of our analyses or databases, please go to the section titled “Your Choices and Rights.”

Privacy – We provide this Privacy Policy statement as a service to consumers and others who want to learn more about the data we handle and how we use it. Most relevant to those concerns are the data we provide to marketers for direct mail campaigns. We do not offer telephone numbers or email addresses for either telephone or email campaigns. Therefore, this statement will focus on our sources and methods for handling mailing lists used in direct mail campaigns.

Data Sources – Our primary source for aggregate or summary data for small geographic areas such as census tracts is the US Bureau of the Census. The Census Bureau is well-known for its strict adherence to respondent confidentiality. Our analysis of census data provides results at the aggregate level and does not impact issues of consumer privacy. Other sources of data may include consumer list aggregators who provide us with consumer-level data that may include what is referred to as “Personal Information” or PI, such as name and postal address. We ensure that companies that supply us with such data adhere to privacy policies that guarantee consumer rights to opt-out and/or not sell their information. Therefore, the data provided to us conforms to such standards which are often state-specific.

How we use consumer list data – In general, we use geographic filters to find neighborhoods that contain likely customers for our client’s products or services. In some cases, we filter consumer lists based on demographic criteria that are legally required to access a financial product, such as being a homeowner older than a specific age threshold. In all cases, we provide data to marketers for their “legitimate interests,” defined as a valid reason for marketing to consumers that balances the rights of individuals with legitimate business interests. In that sense, our processing of consumer list data is necessary for business efficiency as well as fair, transparent, and respectful of the privacy rights of consumers. Finally, we provide clients with data that helps them deliver targeted and relevant marketing and promotional content to consumers via direct mail campaigns.
